all things advent

all things advent

Here at Church Urban Fund we’re getting really excited about Advent!

This year we launched the Advent Sleepout Challenge. During Advent, people all over England will take the Christmas story as inspiration to create their own Advent ‘stable’ and give up a night of comfort; sleeping out with friends, families, church groups, clubs and community groups

It’s a great way to help others, have fun together and to spend some time reflecting on the real meaning of Advent.

So with less than four weeks to go we’re listening out for all things related to Advent, and we’ve just heard that the Royal Mail are to feature nativity scenes, from the annunciation to the birth of Christ, on their Christmas stamps. The beautiful stamps are another reminder of the real meaning of Christmas and why Advent is so important.

This is a time of preparation as we anticipate the ‘arrival’ of Christ. It’s a time to pause and realise that the incredulous happened; God came and joined us, and he did so simply because he loves each one of us personally and he resides with us, even today, through his Holy Spirit.
