Cornerstone Benwell Christian Shop; Furniture recycling project

Cornerstone Christian Shop is working in the communities of Scotswood and South Benwell. It aims to act as a Christian presence in the area and works closely across denominations. Cornerstone wanted to develop a new furniture service in response to a locally identified need, providing essential furniture and equipment for deprived households. With the help of Church Urban Fund they are now able to collect, repair and deliver items of furniture to those who need it. They employed a part-time worker to coordinate the service; securing storage space, recruiting volunteers, identify furniture donors and arranging deliveries. It operates in partnership with local statutory authorities to particularly target asylum seekers, individuals moving out of hostel accommodation, local residents under severe financial pressure, and people recently rehoused into the community.
