At Church Urban Fund are working to transform lives and communities. We imagine a future where every individual and every community in England is flourishing.
Imagine a future without suffering and poverty...
Mother Theresa's commitment to God's calling on her life continues to inspire millions, and her order of the Missionaries of Charity works with some of the poorest and most marginalised people on a global scale. Her endeavours were formally recognized in 1979 when she was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.
Imagine a future where everyone, everywhere has equal rights...
Almost 50 years after his death, Martin Luther King is still considered one of the most formative figures in the modern plight for civil rights. Like Mother Theresa he was also awarded the Nobel Peace Prize but in 1964.
Imagine a future where everyone, everywhere has freedom of speech...
Dietrich Bonhoeffer, arguably one of the most courageous opponents of the Nazi regime: pastor, theologian and poet he chose to stay in Germany to continue his work serving the Confessing Church rather than flee. One of the themes running through his writing is that of the cost of true discipleship. He is one of the world’s most quoted theologians today.
Imagine a future where every child grows up in peace and safety...
Sir Nicholas Winton helped to organise the rescue of 600 children in Czechoslovakia from the Nazis in the months before the Second World War. Most of the children who made the journey across Europe to safety had no idea who was helping them. Amogst them were film director Karel Reisz and Labour politician Alf Dubs. After his retirement he devoted his life to fundraising for Mencap and the Abbeyfield charity.
