Near Neighbours Awards News

Near Neighbours Awards News

October was a special month for Near Neighbours. We reached our landmark 1000th grant, but we also had two of our friends receive some exciting news, too!

Ruth Burgess

Our Black Country Coordinator, Ruth Burgess, recently received a special award to celebrate the great work she has been doing in her hub. Given to her by the local community, Ruth's award celebrates "her outstanding commitment, dedication, and desire to improve inter-faith relations and make a difference in the Black Country."

Ruth has been working tirelessly in her community since the beginning of our second phase and this award is no less than all her hard work deserves! Congrats, Ruth!

Riaz Ravat

Riaz works for our host organisation in the East Midlands, the St. Philips Centre. He has also been instrumental in setting up and running the Catalyst young leaders programme. This October he received news that he is one of eight new Deputy Leftenants for the county of Leciestershire. He has received this new title "in honour of his service to the local community."

Deputy Lieutenants undertake a wide range of duties and engagements including representing the Lord-Lieutenant and participating in Citizenship Ceremonies, attending remembrance services and parades and helping to assess local organisations nominated for awards and honours.

Riaz has been doing amazing work in Leicester and we congratulate him wholeheartedly on this acheivement and thank him for all that he has given us and his community in Leicester! Congrats and thank you, Riaz!
