The Index of Multiple Deprivation 2015 (IMD) attempts to measure a broader concept of deprivation by bringing together 7 domains: income; employment; health and disability; education; housing and services; crime; and living environment.
IMD is a relative measure that is used to compare areas; it is not a direct measure of deprivation. Other direct measures, such as child poverty or working age poverty, are necessary to develop a full understanding of an area.
It is important to note that not every person in a deprived area will themselves be deprived. Equally, there will be some deprivation even in more affluent areas.
