Contact the Elderly

Throughout the North East

Contact the Elderly is a national charity which tackles the acute loneliness of isolated older people, over the age of 75, who live alone with limited support from family, friends and statutory services. Each month on a Sunday afternoon, our volunteer drivers use their cars to take one or two older people to afternoon tea in a volunteer host’s home, where a small group enjoy warm hospitality and friendship.Older guests enjoy this group completely free of charge and volunteers feel a real sense of purpose.

DRIVE: use your car to take one or two older guests with you to a tea party every month. You will need a full drivers license. HOST: welcome a small group into your home for tea twice a year. Easy access and a downstairs toilet are essential; COORDINATE: Join in and ensure the smooth running of monthly tea party groups. If you can spare a few hours we would love to hear from you, and in return, we guarantee you'll enjoy yourself!
